THE STORY SO FAR
Eccentric Peacock is my ceramic studio and shop.
I was born and brought up in Coventry, England, but have a heritage that spans India and Nepal. I studied at Art School in Coventry and Fashion and Textiles at Bristol University, majoring in the history of Fashion.
This has driven my strong love of design, colours and patterns.
My inspiration can be taken from anywhere, an old kimono, Indian embroidery, patterns from an old piece of cloth or wallpaper or just shapes and patterns found in nature.
My work is all designed, moulded or thrown and painted by hand.
Once a design is conceived, I sketch and plan the colour scheme for the glazes used in the piece. This can be difficult as the colour of the glazes you use whilst painting may not be the same as the final colour after firing.
Once the piece is designed, the basic shape is hand built or thrown using clay.
The piece is then Bisque fired to prepare it for hand decoration.
This painting process can be time consuming because the more intricate designs are painted in layers and the piece fired in-between layers to seal in the colour , before the next layer of the design and colour is applied.
Once all the layers of the design and colour scheme have been applied, a final glaze
is applied to seal the piece.
